SHOULD YOU HIRE A BRAND DESIGNER?

As your interest in the equestrian world increases and horses go from hobby to a full-blown lifestyle, you may consider purchasing your own horse. When you do this, you consider many factors, such as age, training and ability, discipline, and budget. The 14.2h ranch horse is a steady and reliable mount for working cattle, but is likely ill-suited for the AA Hunter Jumper circuit in which you have the most interest in competing. In order to find your perfect mount, you narrow your search to only include horses that have miles in the Hunter ring and have the right amount of experience to make you a competitive rider, all while staying within your specified budget.

The process of finding your perfect horse is much like the process of finding a brand designer for your company! Just like horses, design agencies are not one-size-fits-all.

Propelling your brand forward is an important step in any business plan, and hiring a brand designer can allow you to have more time to do what you love- which is one of our main goals here at Maredith Davis Design.

We’ve compiled a list of important things to consider before hiring a brand designer, so you know exactly what you’re looking for when choosing a designer for your brand.

  1. Do they understand your industry? An amazing brand designer that understands your company’s industry and goals will help you save time and money by helping you generate content they know resonates with your target audience. They have in-depth knowledge and experience in the field that allows them to deeply connect with your target audience and create messages that perfectly communicate your brand’s aesthetic.

  2. Do they have experience working with brands like yours? Although this is similar to #1, it is important to consider whether or not the brand designer has worked with companies like yours before. If they don’t understand your values or what goals you are trying to accomplish because they are unfamiliar with how you work, you may not get the best value from that particular designer. That’s okay, though! Everyone has their special talents, and being thorough in your search for a designer will help you narrow down who is the best to partner with to help your brand flourish.

  3. Do you have a clear vision for your business? A designer can only help you create strategies and designs as clear as you are able to communicate your goals and intentions. Having a crystal clear understanding of your brand’s target audience, long term goals, mission and values will help your designer understand what you stand for and how to create content that represents your brand through and through.

  4. What is a realistic timeline and budget for your project? Different designers may charge different fees based on the time commitment, their level of expertise or the scope of the project. Some projects may take more time or be more in depth than others, which creates varying prices. Make sure you communicate with a potential designer how much money you are allotting for the project with them, and together you can discuss what the price includes. But price isn’t the only important factor here- timing is extremely important too! Make sure you have plenty of time to discuss the project’s goals and submit feedback as the project progresses. A timeline should be reasonable for the amount of work that needs to be done and allow for edits and changes as needed before the deadline.

Here at Maredith Davis Design, a brand design studio for equestrians and entrepreneurs, we can help take your equestrian business to a full blown gallop by truly getting to know your story and passions and helping you generate content that aligns with your target audience. Together we can create contemporary yet timeless designs and content that inspire and connect your viewers and turn them into lifelong supporters and customers.
